Finance sophomore Brandon Ressler plays online poker and that is how he makes his living. He spends 20 hours a week playing online poker and he makes around $300 a week which is more than any student would earn in McDonald’s or any other place. He began with $100 he had saved and within 12 days he has earned $1000.
His success encouraged his fellow students to join although one friend was skeptical figuring that after a couple of big wins, the casino will take away all your money. Ressler now charts his performance in order to trace patters and trends. He claims that in short term it is gambling but in the long run it becomes more about skill and experience.
According to the state Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement division, online gambling is criminal activity. Ressler admits that online gambling is illegal but he also adds that he pays tax for every dollar that he wins.
His passion for poker goes beyond the game online, he has many books about poker and he hardly watches TV unless they’re showing anything about poker. But, he dislikes people who play poker as full time job. He’d rather work a 9-to-5 job and contribute something to society instead of playing all day long.
