Although there's time, it's not too early to start planning for the 2005 World Series of Poker. Preliminary rounds of the tournament, as well as all but the last two days of the championship, are scheduled to be held at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. Going along with tradition, the final two days of the championship will be hosted at Binion's Horseshoe Casino. The championship tournament is slated to take place from the 7th until the 15th of July.
The first stage of the tournament, referred to as "Day 1," although it actually takes place over the course of three days, will narrow the playing field from over 3,000 players to just between 500 to 650 players. The first WSOP tournament is scheduled for June 2nd, with a buy-in of $500. The following tournaments will be held daily, with buy-ins starting at $1k and going until $5k.
This year's World Series includes new events, such as June 6th's $2,500 short-handed (six players at a table) no-limit hold'em tournament, as well as another $5,000 short-handed tournament on June 29th. The WSOP extravaganza will also include a special Women's tournament on June 26th, featuring a $1,000 buy-in.
Last year's World Series crowned Greg Raymer champion. The lucky winner took home a whopping $5 million.
