It seems that Excalibur Electronics made the right move when it agreed to be licensed by Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. to market World Series of Poker products. Following the boom of televised poker tournaments, reports confirm that WSOP has successfully reigned over the competition. WSOP's male audience is allegedly 400% greater than poker programming on Bravo and the Travel channel.
Thanks to the show's popularity, the products' appeal has allegedly hit the roof, with demand this past holiday season exceeding twice the initial expectations. Excalibur reportedly distributed $20 million worth of poker paraphernalia just over the holiday season. Excalibur markets everything from poker chips to hand-held electronic games, and its WSOP-inspired goods were so much in demand that they were allegedly going for three times the list price on Ebay. Bed, Bath and Beyond, one of the primary retailers for the WSOP products, said that demand for WSOP electronic card shufflers was four times greater than the products' availability. Some retailers have even created special sections or stands in stores devoted to WSOP goods. The products' popularity is only expected to rise throughout 2005.
Due to the unexpected magnitude of its success, Excalibur is planning to expand the brand and its marketing endeavors. As part of plans for 2005, the company will increase its product promotion at each of Harrah's World Series of Poker circuit events, as well as beefing up its marketing efforts with media tours, press parties, celebrity endorsements, charity fundraisers and more. Additionally, Excalibur recently showcased its entire line of poker products at the Consumer electronics show, in Las Vegas.
