UK poker site Getminted has kept its focus close to home, refusing players from outside the UK. The site has allegedly succeeded in gaining the patronage of a large potion of Great Britain's poker enthusiasts, which according to Getminted, is a direct result of its local focus. Accordingly, the site claims to offer a more intimate and comfortable poker portal by avoiding the flood of American Gamblers.
By limiting its player base, Getminted is forced to offer more modest prizes. Whereas many other online poker sites offer prizes pots reaching over $1 million and send its champions to international championships, Getminted offers low-value free rolls with £1000 prize pots and sends qualifying players to local UK tourneys. Once again, the site does not see this as a weakness. Getminted's Marketing Manager stated that many of the seemingly impressive prizes offered by other sites are just PR gimmicks with negligible odds of winning.
