Online casinos have picked up on the poker trend sweeping college campuses across the United States. One such casino, World Poker Exchange (www.worldpx.com), recently announced a tournament targeting university students at 100 schools across the U.S. The first stages of the World Poker Exchange Intercollegiate Poker Championship will be played online, but later championship events will be played live.
Registration begins today and the first online event is slated for February 13th. Winners of regional online tournaments will qualify for the final leg of the tournament to be held in Cancun Mexico. As part of qualifying for the final tournament, finalists will get the Cancun spring break trip all expenses paid care of the online casino as well as being awarded a laptop computer.
The winner of the Cancun tournament will walk away with the title of Best College Player in the Country, $10,000 in scholarship money and a chance to compete in the World Poker Exchange London Open in August, 2005. Once again, the tournament will include an all-expenses-paid London vacation. Plus the World Poker Exchange will cover the $10,000 entrance fee. The event promises a pot prize of at least $2 million.
Signing up for the World Poker Exchange Intercollegiate Poker Championship is free, but participants must be residents of the U.S. or Canada, at least 18 years-old and attend one of the participating colleges.
