The Big SLC Poker Club, a group which organizes Texas Hold'em tournaments across the state of Utah, planned to host a tournament at the University of Utah. After months of planning, however, the university cancelled the tournament, claiming that such an event was not in students' best interests.
The poker club is considering filing a lawsuit against the university for breach of contract. According to the club, they were initially granted clearance by the university. The University claims, however, that they never gave the club a definite go-ahead.
The club alleges to have lost $4,000 just on advertising for the event. The Big SLC Poker Club recently filed a complaint in a district court. The complaint will be used as framework for a lawsuit, should the club decide to sue the university. The complaint outlined a request for $100,000 in money spent on organizing the event and an additional $250,000 to compensate for earnings forfeited during planning.
