The Degree Poker Championship has officially crowned Vancouver's Liam Greig Canadian Texas hold'em champion. Although Greig actually won the championship in June, his success has only now received television airplay, and the resultant widespread attention. Greig won $105,000 and a seat at the 2005 WSOP, at which he did not fare so well, getting booted out on the first day of competition. The Degree championship playoff event was aired this past weekend on TSN.
Greig reportedly got his start in poker as a young boy, during summer visits with family in Newfoundland. Despite his early start, Greig only started to get more serious about poker a year ago, while working for an online poker company. Until winning the Degree Poker Championship after beating a player field of 2,000, his biggest win was $580.
