Online poker room PokerStars.com has announced that it will begin issuing unique silver collector medallions to commemorate poker champions. Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 World Series of Poker Champion, will be the first player featured in a planned series of six special-issue coins per year.
Moneymaker helped make poker one of America's most popular card games with his win two years ago. He earned a seat among that year's playing field by winning a satellite tournament at PokerStars.com, and went on to win the $2.5 million top prize. Since then, the aptly-named Moneymaker has become one of poker's premier celebrities.
Only 2,000 of each coin in the set will be minted. Every coin is coated with one ounce of pure silver and will be individually numbered. All coins will be authenticated by the Independent Coin Grading company, and will come in a special hologram holder inside a decorative box. The players featured on each coin will be given the first numbered medallion bearing their likeness, leaving 1,999 for the patrons of PokerStars.com.
The medallions will only be offered to players at the PokerStars.com website, in exchange for the Frequent Player Points (FPPs) that they earn while playing. Each player can order up to five of each coin per account until supplies run out.
