New British TV station ITV4 has acquired licensing rights to broadcast series I and II of the World Poker Tour (WPT). ITV4 will begin airing the WPT on Friday evening, November 4th, marking the first time a poker show has received a prime time TV slot in the UK.
ITV4, which debuts today, is the newest channel on the influential ITV network to begin broadcasting in the UK. The station will be particularly geared towards a male demographic, so 72 hours of poker programming should well suit its target audience.
The WPT, featuring 16 high-stakes multinational poker tournaments, reaches millions of people in more than 120 countries and territories all over the world. The show first debuted in late March, two years ago, on the U.S. Travel Channel. Now, poker fans from all over the United Kingdom will also have a convenient time to enjoy gambling action.
The WPT also hopes to increase exposure of its website, www.wptonline.com, in the UK, and, to that end, will have the website be the show's official sponsor. With Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patton, and Shana Hiatt providing the play-by-play commentary, and 13 'WPT Cams' taping each player's every move, British spectators can be sure to tune in to riveting television.
