With the world becoming increasingly automated, live poker is also going high-tech. Accordingly, PokerTek, Inc. has introduced its PokerPro poker tables to many tribal casinos in Florida and Oklahoma. The company brings unique technology to the poker table, and, with it, multiple advantages to both players and casino operators.
The most noticeable difference when playing at a PokerPro table is the absence of a dealer. Each player has a screen detailing the position of the computerized dealer, which, of course, makes no errors. The PokerPro table also uses electronic cards and chips, similar to online poker rooms, but as the game is played live, players can still read each other for tells and maintain a friendly social gaming atmosphere.
With electronically controlled money, casinos save themselves the hassle of dealing with large volumes of clay chips. The technology also prevents any player from accidentally betting too much or betting out of turn, further increasing the speed and precision of poker play.
Players also benefit financially in that they never have to tip, saving their money exclusively for poker play. The main advantage for poker operators is that the computerized table typically allows for faster play and, thus, more hands played, meaning more rake and profits. The Seminole tribe is currently taking advantage of PokerTek technology at many of its tables in Tampa and Hollywood, Florida, while the Chickasaw tribe in Oklahoma is doing the same at its four casino facilities.
