U.S. troops in the Aloha State recently got a special poker-themed treat, courtesy of online gambling site Bodog.com. In what amounted to a tremendous morale-boosting festival, Bodog held a two-day charity event for 110,000 members of the U.S. army, navy, marines, and air force currently stationed at bases in Hawaii. Many of these soldiers will be traveling to the front lines in Iraq or had just returned from an extended stint there.
The main event of the weekend-long celebration was an inter-sector poker tournament, supervised by world-renowned tournament director Matt Savage, in which the finalists in the military portion of the event got to play alongside poker pros and celebrities. Actress Estella Warren soldiered through the 90-player field to win the no-limit hold 'em tournament. A donation to the Fisher House Foundation, a non-for profit organization that supports military families, will be given in her honor. Runner-up was the army's Sergeant Shane Woods, with poker pro Josh Arieh, actress Shannon Elizabeth, and another four servicemen, also competing at the final table.
Highlights of the festivities, dubbed "Bodog Salutes the Troops: A Tribute to American Heroes," can be seen on Spike TV's one-hour event special on Sunday, December 18th. Check your local listings.
