Beating out nearly 4,000 other contestants is what it took to become the second ever Paradise Poker millionaire, and that's just what Santino Sgambelluri did. The naval officer, originally from Guam but currently stationed in Hawaii, took out the nine other finalists at the freeroll tournament's final table in Nassau, Bahamas to clinch the $1 million poker payday.
The final table of the freeroll poker tournament brought together participants from five countries. They were flown in to the Bahamas by Paradise Poker after wading through the thousands of other players online. The tournament continued live with Sgambelluri holding a $1.2 million chip lead over his nearest competitor, Ryan Boyes. Oddly, the finalists finished the tournament in the exact order they entered the final table, but, while Sgambelluri took home $1 million for his efforts, the other finalists only got $10,000 each.
With just $2 million remaining in chips to Sgambelluri's $10 million, Boyes called an all-in bet, but when he saw the military man turn over A-8, he knew his A-2 was facing an uphill battle. When an 8 flopped, and a 2 came on the turn with no more help on the river, Boyes was eliminated to give Sgambelluri the win. The naval officer plans to use the winnings to pay off his debts, invest wisely, and possibly start a poker career.
