Poker room pit bosses are charged with the task of monitoring the play at poker tables for the dual purposes of maintaining a non-cheating environment and crediting gamblers with "comps," such as free meals, show tickets, and hotel nights, based on their gameplay. The influx of poker players, however, has not made it any easier for pit bosses to keep tabs on who's playing, betting, and winning at the tables. With slot machines, sophisticated player's club cards can electronically monitor how much money players wager and reward them with points automatically. Pit bosses, on the other hand, have only had pencils, paper, and their own judgment to use in roughly estimating the gameplay statistics of everyone entering the poker room, until now.
Realizing the need to adapt to a growing population of poker players, Harrah's, thanks to International Game Technology (IGT), has fitted many of its poker tables in Las Vegas with technology that, accordingly, not only helps pit bosses with their tasks, but also ensures that poker players get their due rewards for the time and money they spend at the felt. IGT has created "Table Touch" to act as the perfect sidekick for casino pit bosses. Table Touch provides the logistical assistance needed to monitor all gameplay in a poker room. Pit bosses can now enter all the action they see into this fully computerized system that will crunch all the numbers for them in order to provide full and exhaustive reports on the poker play of each and every person to pull up a seat at a table.
Another helpful feature of the Table Touch technology allows pit bosses to create a personal profile of each poker player, complete with a picture from casino security cameras. Harrah's pit bosses now have an "ace in the hole," so to speak, at almost all of the poker tables in their Las Vegas casinos and intend to install Table Touch in the poker rooms of their other facilities throughout the world.
