Kieran Walsh, a business student from Cork, Ireland, can count himself a lucky man; he's just won €150,000 coming in first place at the Irish Poker Championships. Proving that the Irish never quit, Kieran emerged victorious over 499 other blokes in the three-day No-Limit Texas Hold 'em event. With a €1,000 buy-in, it meant a €500,000 prize pool was distributed among the tournament winners.
The Irish Poker Championships were sponsored by the recently launched Boylepoker.com, and were held at the City West Hotel in Dublin, the nation's capital. The top three finishers in the event were Irishmen, with Dubliner Damian Kavanagh taking €70,000 in second place, and Dave Masters finishing third and taking home €30,000. England was also well-represented at the event, with Hendon "Mobster" Barney Boatman taking fourth place and adding €18,000 to his bankroll, and a couple other Brits rounding out the final table.
