Poker is going Hollywood! Every year, the best actors and actresses gather in Hollywood for awards shows where they are recognized for their on-screen talents. Now, poker players have an awards platform of their own. For the first time in history, poker's best will be publicly lauded for their achievements around the felt in Card Player's Player of the Year Awards Gala.
The mega poker event is slated to take place on February 15th. Men "The Master" Nguyen will be presented with Card Player's 2005 "Player of the Year" award, his fourth such distinction, which comes with a free $10,000 seat at the 2006 World Series of Poker main event. Also to be recognized, with the organization's "Lifetime Achievement Award," will be poker's very own "Texas Dolly," Doyle Brunson. Some of poker's most recognizable and successful players, like Brunson's son, Todd, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, and Phil Hellmuth, among others, have been nominated for awards ranging from "Best Cash Game Player" to "Most Underrated Player."
The post-Valentine's Day event will be produced by online poker room operator Bodog and will be hosted by Brad Garrett, better known for his role as police officer Robert Barone on the hit NBC comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond." For poker pros and poker fans alike, the awards show promises to be an event to remember.
