The Borgata Winter Poker Open saw 381 poker players fork up $10,000 to participate in the No-Limit Texas Hold 'em main event. The World Poker Tour (WPT) event in Atlantic City drew some of poker's biggest names, such as Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen, Eric Seidel, David Williams, and Daniel Negreanu. After four days of play, however, there was only one player left standing, one of poker's hottest new faces, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi.
The final table of six was packed with poker talent. When the action wound down to three players, day three chip leader, poker pro Erick Lindgren, was knocked out by day two chip leader John D'Agostino, setting up a heads-up match between him and Mizrachi for the championship. The final hand saw The Grinder's two pair hold up against D'Agostino's busted gutshot straight. Illustrating how crucial solid poker play is when just a few players remain, Mizrachi won about $1.2 million for his first place finish, while D'Agostino and Lindgren took home about half and a quarter as much prize money, respectively. In addition to the winner's share of the prize money, Mizrachi was also awarded a 2006 Cadillac Escalade and a lucrative seat at the WPT Championship worth $25,000.
