The final event of the more-than-month-long L.A. Poker Classic is the Invitational. This year's by-invitation-only No-Limit freeroll poker tournament featured over 300 of the hottest Hollywood celebrities mixing it up with some of the biggest names in poker at the world's largest land-based poker room, Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. Essentially a freeroll poker tournament designed to attract big-name celebrities and lots of publicity, the red carpets and paparazzi were out in full force to catch glimpses of the stars hobnobbing at the pre-game cocktail party and, of course, at the felt.
With WSOP winner Jennifer Tilly, "Seinfeld"'s Jason Alexander, and former "Saturday Night Live" news anchor Norm McDonald competing along with a host of other celebrities, the atmosphere was as lively as they come, with cheering, hollering, and hooting at most of the casino's poker tables. The poker pros also turned out in droves, with Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, and Barry Greenstein, among others, doing their best to "cash in" on the relatively weak poker play of most celebs.
When all was said and done, Barry Greenstein emerged as the winner, picking up a check for $100,000. Known as "The Robin Hood of Poker" for his generosity away from the poker tables, Greenstein will be donating the entire sum to charity. He will, however, keep the free $25,000 seat at the season-ending World Poker Tour Championship.
