As previously chronicled here on the pages of OPN, NBC's 2nd annual Heads-Up Poker Championship will be held at Caesars Palace this month. In a traditional NCAA-type bracket format, 64 competitors will battle it out in a series of single elimination matches for the title of Heads-Up Poker Champ. Defending champion Phil Hellmuth will face stiff competition from the likes of Phil Ivey, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and 60 other poker pros, as well as one wild card contender, Josh Lochner.
Lochner has won the 64th slot in the Heads-Up Championships by ousting about 30,000 other players in a series of nbcheadsup.com online poker tournaments. The 21-year-old Lochner admitted to being somewhat wary of facing Hellmuth, but expressed excitement about his chance to lock horns with the world's top poker players. Poker fans can tune in to NBC beginning April 16th to see if the wild card can trump the 63 aces.
