After three grueling days of match play against the likes of Freddy Deeb, Chip Reese, Josh Arieh, James McManus, and Sean Sheikhan, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson again fell just one game short of winning NBC's Heads-Up Poker Championship. Runner-up to Phil Hellmuth in last year's competition, Ferguson lost two out of three games to Ted Forrest in this year's final championship match. With a specially-constructed grandstand full of excited poker fans cheering them on at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Forrest and Ferguson traded blows into the wee hours of the morning. Jesus drew first blood in game 1, but Forrest clawed back to win game 2, and delivered the knockout punch in game 3 of the poker match.
While Ferguson had to be content with a consolation prize of $250,000, Forrest, the new 2006 Heads-Up Poker Champion, collected half a million dollars for his win. On his way to the poker crown, Forrest defeated top poker pros Erik Seidel, Chad Brown, Ernie Dureck, Sammy Farha, Huck Seed, and, finally, Ferguson. Both Ferguson and Forrest emerged from a highly competitive field of 64 that saw the likes of Phil Ivey, former World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Chris Moneymaker, defending Heads-Up Champion Phil Hellmuth, and poker celebrities James Woods and Jeniffer Tilly eliminated in just the first round of competition.
