The winner of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Final may have earned over $1 million for his victory, but his poker career may be put on hold due to the fact that he’s not even old enough to play in most major American casinos. University of Georgia freshman Jeff Williams took the top prize, but seeing that he’s just 19 years of age, he’ll have to wait a while before he can step foot into the Las Vegas casinos where the most prestigious poker action takes place. And that means, of course, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) as well. For most up-and-coming poker players, the WSOP represents the natural progression of their poker career. The poker community, however, will have to wait to see if Williams’ poker prowess at the EPT Final is representative of his ability at the felt, or if his victory were a mere fluke.
Williams entered into the $10,000 buy-in poker tournament thanks to an online poker tournament he won at Poker Stars, the sponsor of the EPT Final. In total, Williams shelled out $40 to earn his million. Among the major players he outlasted were 2004 WSOP champion Greg Raymer and 2005 WSOP champ Jo Hachem, as well as Marcel "The Flying Dutchman" Luske. Williams now has two years to sharpen his poker skills even further before we catch him at the action in Vegas, but we hope to see him there.
