When a huge corporation like Pepsi starts hiring professional poker players to do commercials, you know poker has gone mainstream. Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Scotty Nguyen have been cast opposite a can of Diet Pepsi in a commercial that also stars former 'Saturday Night Live' comic Jay Mohr. In the commercial, the can's agent, Mohr, promotes the can as a top-notch poker player. Mohr's words prove prophetic as viewers see the poker-playing threesome 'fizzling' against the can of Diet Pepsi. Negreanu, in particular, can be seen sweating at the poker table, upon watching his quad aces get bad beat by the can's royal flush on the river.
The Diet Pepsi commercial sees Negreanu, Hellmuth, and Nguyen fill shoes previously worn by Jackie Chan, the late Ray Charles, and P. Diddy in promoting the soft drink. When an international company with beverage sales all over the world, such as Pepsi, turns to poker greats to promote its products, you know poker is big. Tapping into the worldwide poker craze, Pepsi casting its Diet Pepsi can opposite three poker pros and scooping pot after pot from them gives the impression that its product, like the game of poker and its top players, is a winner.
