A proposition bet, familiar to sports bettors and poker players from all walks of life, can be loosely defined as a more exotic type of betting option than just picking a game's winner or loser. Typical examples of "prop" bets in poker would be wagering on who is more likely to win a particular hand, or on whether or not a player will catch one of his or her outs needed to scoop a pot. But the following wager appears as though it will raise prop bets to a new level in the poker world. Apparently, two poker pros, Gavin Smith and Joe Sebok, have risked extreme embarrassment during this upcoming World Series of Poker (WSOP) through a "super" prop bet.
Each of the two pros announced the details of the prop bet to their blog followers. Sebok and Smith agreed to tally points they earn, according to the ESPN World Series Player of the Year points system, during all of the Limit, Pot-Limit, and No-Limit Texas Hold ’em events at the 2006 WSOP that lead up to the main event. The loser, i.e., the player who accumulates fewer points up until then, must arrive at the $10,000 buy-in main event wearing anything the winner wants him to wear; that's right, anything! If the prop bet's loser stays alive in the main event past the first day, he must wear a different superhero costume on each subsequent day while playing. Reportedly, Sebok and Smith have already agreed upon the list of superheros that the loser will personify. So don't be surprised if you tune in for some World Series of Poker action this summer and see Superman, Batman, or the Flash trying to outmaneuver some plain old Joes at the felt.
