It now appears as though the Scheinberg family, owners of 75% of PokerStars, are leaning more towards the IPO option than an outright sale of the company.
Rumors of potential takeover bids by gaming companies like William Hill or Rank Group have subsided amidst the rumblings about a potential IPO, which, according to industry analysts, could net PokerStars a cool $2.5-$3 billion in a London listing. Despite its reported $200 million per year in profits and the heightened potential for PokerStars to raise billions in capital, nothing can be certain in the online poker world, which is highly dependent on U.S.-based Internet poker players. Of major concern to online poker operators is the current congressional lobby in the United States dedicated to banning American citizens from gambling online.
