The 70-year-old Burt Reynolds is hardly the draw he used to be when it comes to the film or television roles he now takes. Nonetheless, the people behind "Deal," the newest planned poker movie, have made him one of the movie's central characters. Reynolds will star alongside Bret Harrison, a TV actor who appeals mostly to the teen demographic, when "Deal" begins filming in New Orleans next week.
The movie's plot has Reynolds, who plays a former gambler, mentoring a hot-headed college student (played by Harrison), teaching him the tricks of the poker trade. The theme here is similar to the fifth installment of Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky" films, as all goes well to start, but a disagreement leads to a schism between the two protagonists. Rather predictably, Reynolds' and Harrison's characters end up facing each other at a final table of a World Poker Tour championship tournament. The film's creators are counting on poker's popularity to lure audiences in to see the outcome.
