Johnny Chan, a famous poker pro, was apparently conned out of $150,000 several years ago. According to records of the Californian Riverside County Superior Court, John Robert White, a resident of Temecula, contacted the poker champion and allegedly offered him to invest in the development of a local stadium where, as he claimed, a poker room was slated for opening.
Nevertheless, Chan was not the only victim of the 50-year-old conman. Deputy District Attorney Michael Silverman was reported as saying that the case entangled five other victims, and totaled a loss of up to $232,000. The prosecutor also said that the crimes were alleged to have occurred from December 2003 through November 2004.
Chan is well-known in the poker industry. He won the WSOP event in 1987 and 1988 and was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2002. Chan's swindler was apprehended and taken to the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley. Jail records reportedly stated that White was being held in lieu of $232,000 bail.
