According to a national survey ordered by prominent online poker destination PokerRoom.com and conducted by research company Synovate, one in four Western Canadians would willingly risk doubling their mortgage, or eliminating it completely, in a single poker hand. Also, half of Ontario citizens stated that they were willing to take the risk of either doubling their credit card or wiping it out in a double-or-nothing poker hand.
Interestingly enough, the survey found that Canadians have different considerations when it comes to which debt they would be willing to risk in a double-or-nothing hand of poker. Accordingly, 45% of Canadians stated that it was their credit card debt that they wished to become free of, 18% mentioned their mortgage, 18% mentioned income taxes and 13% mentioned personal or student loan.
Glenn Cademartori, North American spokesperson for PokerRoom.com, was quoted as saying, "Canadians take risks everyday: crossing the street, switching jobs, competing in sports or playing online poker. Each has an element of risk. The key to avoiding a letdown is to assess and then manage that risk. And Canadians are clearly smart risk takers: they are often among the top winners at PokerRoom.com online tournaments."
