The Department of Labor recently determined that S-Won Inc., a gaming facility operator, is liable to pay $10,200 in unpaid wages to its security officer who was shot and injured during an attempted robbery at Capitol Poker, the company's poker facility, in Sadog Tasi, Saipan Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
According to local police records, two years ago, a disguised man fired gunshots, hitting Angelo M. Laborce, Capitol Poker's security guard, and the facility's cashier while trying to rob the aforementioned establishment. Due to his injuries, Laborce was not able to continue working for over a year.
Apparently, the company refused to continue paying its injured employee. The poker venue's security guard filed a labor case for unpaid wages. After thorough investigation, Barry Hirshbein, labor administrative hearing officer, determined that S-Won Inc. must cover Laborce's unpaid wages. Hirshbein ordered S-Won Inc. to pay the amount within two weeks.
