It was recently reported that the 20-year-old Greg Hogan, who was accused of robbing a local back in Allentown, Pennsylvania to cover his Internet poker debts, pleaded guilty to one count of felony robbery. Hogan, a former Lehigh University class president and the son of a preacher, was accused of holding up a Wachovia bank last December by handing a teller a note demanding money and claiming that he was armed.
According to authorities, Hogan robbed the bank of $2,871, and then drove off with two of his fraternity brothers. During questioning, both students told the police that they never knew of Hogan's plans, and neither was charged with criminal offenses.
John Waldron, the online poker player's defense attorney, was reported as saying that Hogan was apprehended the same night he had attacked the bank and charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Under a deal struck with his prosecutors, the defendant could face up to three years in prison when he is sentenced next month. After the robbery, Hogan completed a treatment program for poker gambling addiction.
