888.com Holdings PLC, an Israel-based online poker and casino company, recently saw a major drop in the second quarter sales. Although the gaming company's history has demonstrated a consecutive growth in 888.com's revenues, the second quarter of 2006 saw a drop in active players and the 23% increase in revenues fell short of gaming market expectations.
Nevertheless, a source from 888.com willing to comment on the company's revenue plunge was quoted as saying, "Overall trading for the first six months of the year has been in line with Board expectations with an encouraging first half despite the seasonally quieter second quarter which was additionally influenced this year by the World Cup".
Following the recent regulations against Internet poker rooms and casino websites operated outside the U.S., CEO John Anderson said that 888.com is now considering the option to acquire an online bookmaker that would not accept wagers from United States residents. According to Anderson, such a sports book would serve as the company's customer retention tool.
