Phil Hellmuth, one of the most popular poker pros, was recently eliminated from the World Series of Poker main event. The 10-time WSOP champion was reported as saying that he fell victim to his terrible luck. Hellmuth lost approximately 1,000 of his chips before he even started playing, due to the "blinds" chip in requirement in Texas Hold' em.
After only two hands, he had already lost a significant amount of his chips when his pair of jacks got defeated by two queens, and then when a pair of kings lost to two aces. Hellmuth is out on the same hand as in 2005, when his A-Q failed to beat pocket 7's.
The list of other poker masters who participated in the event includes Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Annie Duke and young poker champ Jeff Madsen. Longtime poker master Doyle Brunson survived for about five hours longer than Hellmuth, but was also eliminated when he went all-in on a pair of nines and got beaten by three 10s.
