According to a recent report, John Young, a 32-year-old resident of Slough, UK, won the inaugural World Strip Poker Championship that took place last Saturday in Cafe Royal in central London. Young beat almost 200 opponents who took part in the unusual poker event. Following the win the new strip poker champ was awarded a 10,000 pound prize.
The event was organized by Paddy Power, one of Ireland's most prominent online bookmakers. A spokesperson for Paddy Power was reported as saying that the winner, a freelance writer by trade, gladly stripped all his remaining clothes after Paddy Power promised to donate 10,000 pounds to Cancer Research.
Each player started playing wearing exactly five items of clothing provided by Paddy Power staff. In addition, the Strip Poker Championship was governed by strict hygiene rules. The contestants were given towels to sit on and cover themselves after stripping. Paddy Power officials also reportedly said that they would not tolerate any offensive behavior.
