With all of the new legislation about online gambling and companies such as Party Poker and 888.com pulling out of the US market, other sites have had to make decisions as well. Online Poker Tour is business as usual, at least for the time being. The current season ends at the first of the year and they are considering making some changes to comply more with the current legal standings.
Other affiliates of poker rooms have been making changes. Some have closed their doors altogether and some have taken other standings such as not taking US players themselves or not promoting any poker rooms or casinos that do take US players.
We have also seen a lot of changes from the poker rooms and casinos. Consolidation is a key word we have been seeing a lot. Poker rooms are merging together to take the place of Party Poker which used to be a super force in online poker.
There have been talks in the industry that some Las Vegas casinos are looking to buy out some of the online gaming sites. This leads many of us to believe that the US will eventually legalize online gaming. This would be a great thing for the millions of players that want to play online poker. If these changes were to take place you could see places like MGM getting into the game. Players could feel secure that all the games and their money would be legit and safe.
Online Poker Tour plans to comply as much as possible in hopes that one day they will legalize online gaming and they will still be on the good side of the US government. It will be a great day for the US players when this happens and the millions of players feeling their freedoms slipping away can once again smile.
