The World Poker Association and 1400 of its members received an emailed request from WPS founder and professional player Jesse Jones for five individuals with ''leadership skills and business expertise''.
The World Poker organization is only three years old beginning in 2005 with $100, 00 of Jones's own money. Jones states that he founded it with the knowledge that ''it might fail and the money may go to waste''. Yet he was encouraged by the initial response and support.
His email details the stormy history of the WPA and the things that prevented the organization ''from growing into a size befitting tournament poker'' such as bad leadership, organization and lack of proper marketing.
He also admits that throat cancer prevented his leadership from continuing.
According to Jones problems emerged when in 2007 The World Poker Association chose a Board of directors, but an entirely new board was seated at the beginning of this year. Consequently nearly all members resigned save Jones and fellow pro Blair Rodman who resigned later.
In the past Jones has made his disagreements known with the elected board's leadership and their ideas, as well as with their assessment of yearly membership fees.
In the past Jones has had discussions with prominent players about taking more active leadership within the WPA, yet apparently these persons where unable to step up at the time.
In this email Jones claims that during the 2008 World Series of Poker he had a serious discussion with an individual who was planning the tour and sharing the proceeds with the players, but these discussion ended due to ''philosophical difference.''
Jones is now seeking potentially major players in the online poker world for support.
