Online Poker Industry Continues to Grow (OPN Staff)
Recent studies conducted by industry analysts show that, thanks to the online poker industry, the e-gambling market will continue to grow.
Toronto-based CryptoLogic is one of the most successful companies, managing to cash in $2.9million (up 32% year over year) more than 15% of which came from its poker business (up 55% from the previous quarter) as reported in Canada.com. It is the fourth largest network of online poker sites in the world. At any given time, one could find more than 3000 people playing in CryptoLogic online poker sites.
Poker connoisseurs explain that the popularity of this game increased with televised poker such as "World Series of Poker," "World Poker Tour" and celebrity games.
Chris Moneymaker, who managed to win the prestigious World Series of Poker 2003 and take home the $2.5million prize after qualifying at an online tournament, serves as an example to many people who believed that online gaming may help them improve their poker skills.
